This Drinks Recycling On-the-Go report was produced to support Defra in understanding single-use drinks containers placed on the UK market (POM), consumed, recycled, or disposed of.
The study covers metal drinks cans, plastic and glass bottles, drinks cartons, and pouches, offering robust insights to inform packaging policy.
Using a bottom-up approach and multiple data sources, including Valpak’s product and packaging database, industry reports, and expert input, the report provides accurate estimates with error margins wherever possible. The findings highlight recycling performance and disposal trends, supporting evidence-based strategies to improve drinks container recycling across the UK.
Valpak’s Plastic PackFlow 2025 Methodology Review strengthens the methodologies used to estimate UK plastic packaging placed on the market, introducing updated 2024 baseline data, improved robustness assessments, and evidence to support packaging policy, regulatory development, and informed industry decision-making.
