This project, commissioned by Valpak Limited and Defra, and delivered by Valpak Consulting and WRAP, assessed plastic packaging placed on the UK market (POM) and recycling performance in 2013. Using both primary and secondary research, the study provides a detailed evidence base to inform Defra’s packaging policy.
With input from a wide steering group including Defra, the Environment Agency, BPF, Recoup, Plastics Europe and others, the report also explores scenarios for future recycling rates up to 2020. Its findings highlight the challenges and opportunities in improving plastic packaging recycling across the UK.
Valpak’s Plastic PackFlow 2025 Methodology Review strengthens the methodologies used to estimate UK plastic packaging placed on the market, introducing updated 2024 baseline data, improved robustness assessments, and evidence to support packaging policy, regulatory development, and informed industry decision-making.
