In 2012, the UK glass packaging recycling sector faced significant volatility, with low recycling figures in the first half of the year putting pressure on performance targets. To meet the EU Directive recycling target of 60%, the UK needed to recycle 1.65 million tonnes of glass packaging. Despite a surge in the final quarter, the total achieved was 59%, just short of compliance.
